The 9 member Board of Education is elected by residents of Cornwall Central School District, who are 18 years of age or over, citizens of the U.S.A., and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days. In addition, a qualified voter must be registered with the Orange County Board of Elections and/or the Cornwall School District. Members serve without salary and are responsible for policy-making and overseeing a public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties. Each is elected for a term of 3 years.Elections are held annually. Board meetings are open to the public and are held twice each month with the exception of July and August which sees one meeting per month. Meetings typically begin at 7:00 p.m. at either Cornwall Central High School or Cornwall Elementary School.

1. CCSD Strategic Plan: The board of education is committed to long range planning to build upon the strengths of our district.
- We will: Review the results of the 2024 climate survey and support administration’s action planning.
- We will: Complete the RFP for selecting an external partner for planning services and upon review of proposals, determine feasibility and next steps.
- We will: Set up a dedicated long-range planning committee which includes board members, district administration, staff members, parents/community members, and students. (If we decide to pursue the planning based on the point above).
- We will: Provide stakeholder progress updates at our monthly work session meetings throughout the year.
2. Facilities Improvement: Provide an environment that maximizes learning for all staff and students via clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities.
- We will: Continue to monitor the progress of the 2022 Capital Project to ensure all work is completed suitably and on budget.
- We will: Finalize the selection of projects to include in our next capital project via the facilities committee and then ratify by the full Board based on information from the BCS, architects, construction manager, and district facilities staff.
- We will: Discuss the optimal timing to ask district voters to approve our next capital project bond based upon needs above and funding availability.
- We will: Continue to monitor increasing enrollment trends, especially at the elementary level, and work on plans to handle a potential influx of new students.
3. Student Achievement: The board of education is committed to maximizing the performance of all students, providing the resources needed for an excellent education while staying focused on their social and emotional needs.

- We will: Partner with the superintendent to review NYS Grade 3-8 Math and ELA assessments, Regent’s exam results, and other relevant data points to ensure student proficiency levels are progressing with the learning standards.
- We will: Prioritize students’ needs with a focus on providing appropriate resources.
- We will: Partner with the superintendent to further explore the feasibility of increasing the participation in the UPK program identifying resource, space, and cost requirements as well as the current and future capacity projections of internal and external providers.
- We will: Support administration in delivering professional development programs that cultivate ongoing learning and professional dialogue to ensure a highly skilled teaching staff that meets the needs of all levels of learners using research-based programs
