• Mr. Taylor’s 2023-2024 Class Expectations

    7th Grade United States History

Welcome to 7th grade Social Studies! I hope you had a great summer. This class expectations and syllabus is designed to help explain this year’s curriculum, how you are graded, my classroom policies, and what is expected of students in class. Please bring this sheet home. Review it with your parents and/or guardians. Please return it to me with the required signatures and information requested. Questions are always welcome.

~ The 7th Grade Social Studies Curriculum

    • We will cover the history of the U.S. as part of the “New World” as it developed from around the 1500’s to the 1850’s.

    ~ Grade Values

          * Tests: 50% *Quizzes & Essays: 25% * Homework & class participation: 25%

*** Each quarter is valued at 22.5 % of your overall grade for the year. The last 10% of your grade is based on a cumulative final exam given at the end of the year.***

    ~ Grading Policies

    • ANY missed work is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to make up. If you are absent from class any homework, classwork and any missed Tests or Quizzes must be made up. Failing to do so will result in a 0% in your average for the missed grades or assignment. Situations with “extenuating circumstances” will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

    • Homework: I use a 3 strike rule in my class. Unless absent, I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS. That said, you are able to miss up to 3 homework assignments per quarter without it hurting your class average. This does not include graded assessments like quizzes, written assignments or tests. After missing 3 homework assignments I deduct 5 points per missing homework assignment.

    • Students will be informed in advance of tests and most quizzes. Typically I give 4 to 5 days notice for a test. Quizzes, which have less material, usually have 1 day notice. (I also reserve the right to give “pop” quizzes.)

    • Cheating is unacceptable! Any student(s) caught doing so will be subject to administrative action, parental notification, as well as loss of grade. This also includes homework. DON’T DO IT, THE CONSEQUENCES ARE NOT WORTH IT!!!

    • Extra help is available for those students that require it. Students must ask the teacher for availability and set up a time with the teacher.

    • All assignments will be posted in google classroom. What we covered that day, homework assignments, and other information will be posted there.

    ~ Classroom Guidelines and Rules

    • The 3 R’s: Respect yourself, Respect your peers, and Respect all adults: Bullying and other forms of harassment will not be tolerated in this classroom. I expect peer to peer and student to adult interactions to be appropriate. All adults (substitute, teaching assistant, etc.) will ALWAYS be treated with respect.

    • Be on time and come ready to learn with all necessary materials each day.

    • Please do not miss class. This includes coming late to school or not coming to class because of personal issues (medical/dental). If an issue occurs let me know so I can help.

    • Please DO NOT touch things that don’t belong to you. Ask for permission first. I will respect your personal items, please respect mine.

    • Students are given privileges during class such as passes, seating, etc. They are yours to lose if you abuse them.

    • At the end of class, prior to leaving, please be sure to clean and organize the classroom.

    • No cell phones, apple watches or wearables, or electric devices are to be used during class. School rules apply. They must be stored turned off in your bag or in a locker, NOT IN YOUR POCKET!

    • No hats, horseplay, foul language, phone use, gum chewing, make-up, hair brushing, or eating/drinking in class.

    ~ Required materials for class

    • Notebook or loose leaf paper, pens and pencils, folder for worksheets, and any   materials necessary.
