August 27, 2021
Dear COH Families,
I hope this letter finds you all safe and healthy. We are incredibly excited to welcome our students back to Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School. As we get closer to opening day, I know that the anticipation of coming back to school can raise many questions and concerns. Attached to this email you will find three documents that will assist students, parents and guardians to prepare for the first day of school. These documents are also available on the District website under Parents and then Parent Links and Resources. You can also find them on the Principals Page of the Cornwall-on-Hudson website. Please take the time to review them as they will prove to be very helpful and informative.
Cornwall-on-Hudson is a warm and supportive school “where students strive for excellence every day.” During these challenging times, together we can look forward to keeping up the tradition of excellence at Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School and to building a bright future for the community.
This year the District will continue to utilize School Messenger and Parent Portal for important communications. If you need to set up or update these accounts, please contact the main office at 534-8009 x1000. Thank you and enjoy your remaining days of summer vacation.
Darren Corsetti, Principal
About our School
-
The Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School is a small, neighborhood school (consisting of approximately 260 students) in the Hudson Valley of New York State where the emphasis of the staff, students, and community is to provide each student with experiences that encourage academic and emotional growth.Unique features of the school program include extensive use of local resources to interrelate curricular areas with real-life experiences. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through grade four, local sites such as the Museum of the Hudson Highlands, Storm King Art Center, West Point, and Constitution Island, among many others, are incorporated into the program. These experiences are sequentially planned to provide the foundation for many learning experiences in science, social studies, and language arts. This caring school offers many creative outlets for the students through its comprehensive Humanities Program, in which art and music are thoroughly integrated. The students showcase their achievements several times each year by performing concerts, art shows, and musicals developed with common themes. The school thrives on meeting each student's individual needs through a balanced curriculum augmented by remedial and enrichment programs. One measure of its success is that, over the past several years, a high percentage of students have received admirable scores on the New York State fourth grade assessments. The principal, teachers, and support staff are dedicated to fostering a secure atmosphere for the academic and emotional growth of each student. Within this supportive framework, each child can develop lasting values, a sense of self worth, and an "I can do it!" attitude.
