The expectations that I have for my classes have been very consistent over my career. The classroom should be a fun place where we come to learn. All the courses that I teach are advanced or college placement level, so first and foremost, my students are asking more from their education than just general education requirements. I applaud that choice and I take the responsibility of teaching at that level very seriously. I simply ask for that same level of respect from the people I teach. Students should be prepared to work at an advanced or collegiate level in Advanced Global Studies 10, AP Macroeconomics, or SUNY Classism, Racism, and Sexism.
What that means simple is that work for the course will be done with the student's best effort consistently. Not handing in work or not seeking help from me when course content is challenging is not acceptable. My students are learning how to be successful in the future of their educational lives. That is one of my primary motives in being the teacher I am.
